Apple is one of the few tech giants missing from the recent generative AI deluge, though that may be about to change. While Apple’s ChatGPT ban may make you think the company is staying out of the game, a new report suggests that Apple’s AI plans are set to rival OpenAI and Google.
As reported by Bloomberg, Apple is working on its own large language model called Ajax, with multiple teams on the project but no current plans for implementation. Still, Ajax is in use within Apple among engineers, and there’s the possibility of an announcement sometime in 2024.
Generative AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Bard are large language models that use massive data sets and machine learning to generate new content based on different inputs. For example, you could ask ChatGPT to write an article about Apple’s Ajax AI in the style of Ben Johnson, and it would likely write something similar to this, but also probably worse.
Anyway, this new report shines a light on Apple’s AI plans, though it doesn’t exactly come as a surprise that the biggest tech company in the world is working on some AI stuff. Still, it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
