Was Summer Game Fest bad? No way, friend. There was Nicholas Cage! What a handsome man. We saw lots of planets in Starfield! No Man’s Sky sure has come a long way. Assassin’s Creed still exists! Love me some virtual murder. See? How could anyone think Summer Games Fest 2023 was bad?
Well, turns out they do, according to Reddit’s version of science, which is, in fact, a debated field of science: data science! What I mean is, Reddit folks have done a poll where everyone can rate SGF 2023 out of ten, and, well, it’s not looking too rosy for Geoff “Jefferson” Keighley’s pocket liner.
So far, a three out of ten is the most popular rating for Summer Games Fest 2023, according to the poll conducted over on r/Games. That’s not great, and puts it in direct competition with our Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition review for the most negative thing up on Pocket Tactics.
Of course, the most-voted for rating is not really what everyone thinks – that’s just lazy maths. The good maths is the average score, but there are lots of votes and many a decimal place, so I’m going to need to get my biggest calculator from my deepest pocket for this one, and I’m not wearing my cargo shorts, if you know what I mean.
But keep your eyes peeled over on r/Games for the final statistics regarding all of this. In reality, game fans tend to want the moon on a stick, and even Starfield couldn’t give us that. What I’m saying is – game-likers often don’t like, but hate. SGF 2023 was alright, nothing more, nothing less.
Still, it would be nice to have E3 back, wouldn’t it? Summer Game Fest’s Xbox conference was really quite good in terms of content, but it felt stale. Then Ubisoft Forward was hilarious, since it had a live crowd react, and we could watch Phil Spencer sink a beer. We need big rooms full of people, strange flu being spread far too easily, and the miserable pain of journalists working 14-hour days. Sorry, my rose-tinted glasses fell off. Oopsie!
