The most anticipated addition to Second Dinner’s superhero card game is finally here, with the Marvel Snap battle mode going live today. The new multiplayer mechanic opens up a wealth of possibilities, from a few games with a good friend to hosting competitive tournaments, and we can’t wait to get involved.
If you don’t know, up until now Marvel Snap’s only matchmaking choice has been completely random, with you jumping into a game against someone of similar rank and collector’s level. This has been the case since the beta launch, and the addition of battle mode is something the team at Second Dinner has been testing for longer than you might imagine, with Ben Brode quoted in a statement as having worked on the mechanic for years.
The biggest boon of the Marvel Snap battle mode update is that you can now test a deck against a friend, or a randomer on Discord, before taking it to the rank challenge. That means no more having to sacrifice endless cubes as you fall through the ranks trying out that new card you picked up.
The arrival of battle mode also means Second Dinner can cross a long-time goal off the development roadmap. Still, there’s plenty left to come to the game, with plans surrounding an infinity rank leaderboard, in-game events, and further competitive game modes in concept for future updates.
