With the RPG sequel looming on the horizon, get to know the Octopath Traveler 2 characters ahead of the title’s launch, and learn just why you want to explore the world of Solistia with this rag-tag bunch of misfits. With eight unique stories and eight characters to become acquainted with, there are a whole lot of stories waiting to be explored, so let us get you up to speed.
The game that launched several HD-2D ships, the original Octopath Traveler is a stellar RPG from Team Asano of Square Enix that made waves upon its initial Switch release thanks to its intoxicating blend of pixel art and 3D environments. Look beyond the visuals though, and you find a stellar experience that weaves together the story of eight different characters (hence the name) in an interesting way. And yes, the first letters of each character’s name do spell out Octopath.
The sequel promises to only expand on this great gameplay of the original with a new day and night cycle, and for anyone who wanted the character’s stories to intertwine more, Square Enix has explicitly said that this time around each of the eight protagonists will get to interact with the others much more. This is shaping up to be a fantastic sequel, and we can’t wait to play it soon. After spending 1879 days in prison, he sets out to exact his revenge. Osvald in the day has the path action ‘scrutinize’ which gives you the chance to glean information from people with your level helping your chances, though repeated failure will hurt your reputation.
At night, Osvald can use the path action ‘mug’, allowing him to beat people in battle to gain items. Osvald also has the talent ‘study foe’, which automatically triggers at the start of the battle, and shows you each enemy’s weakness. Finally, Osvald has the latent power ‘concentrate spells’, which when activated changes attacks that normally attack all foes to instead focus on a single enemy, which has much more power.

Throné also has the talent known as ‘blessing of darkness’ which automatically triggers in nighttime battles, raising physical attack, elemental attack, and the speed of all allies. Finally, Thoné’s latent power is ‘leave no trace’, which allows her to attack twice in one turn. It’s up to you to use it how you best see fit to turn the tide in battle.

In the nighttime, Partitio can use the path action ‘hire’, using money to use NPCs aid in battle.
He has the talent ‘business partner’ which brings a series of different bonuses depending on the people you hire as Partitio. It could give you a discount in shops, earn you more money in battles, the ability to pay less to use abilities in battle, and more. They also have the talent ‘moonlight judgement’ which automatically triggers in battles at night, blinding foes (and lowering their accuracy) as well as decreasing their physical and elemental defence. Finally, Temenos has the latent power ‘judgement’, which when activated means that each of his attacks lowers enemy shield points. Use this and boosted attacks to quickly break enemies.
