In the hopes of furthering the studio’s commitment to accessible and inclusive gaming, Whitethorn Games has appointed its first Chief Accessibility Officer. Britt Dye is taking on the role, making her one of the only executives of this type in the whole gaming industry.
Dye started at Whitethorn Games in 2021 and has championed accessibility initiatives since the beginning. She has a history of ensuring that Whitethorn’s games not only meet but exceed accessibility standards so that as many people can play them as possible. Dye’s new role builds on this experience and integrates it into the core of the company’s leadership, demonstrating Whitethorn’s ongoing dedication to accessibility and inclusivity.
“I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in terms of accessibility at Whitethorn Games,” said Dye. “However, I recognize that we have a long way to go. We are constantly learning and growing as a company in this space, and I am excited to see what new research, community feedback, and learning we’ve gained through collaboration with accessibility-focused organisations we can implement in the years to come.”
One of Dye’s notable accomplishments in accessibility at Whitethorn Games is her work on making the studio’s games compatible with the Xbox Adaptive Controller to open the door for a whole new group of gamers. She’s also previously spoken on panels at US GAConf, LibCon, and other games accessibility events, aiming to share her expertise with as many people as she can.
CEO of Whitethorn Games Dr. Matthew White said, “We believe that gaming should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities or background. By appointing Britt Dye as our Chief Accessibility Officer, we’re taking a significant step forward in our mission to make gaming a more inclusive and enjoyable experience for all.”
