After a substantial change in the meta with the nerfs to Silver Surfer and Zabu, Marvel Snap discard decks are running rampant in matchmaking, laying waste to what many of us thought were good meta decks. It turns out that the Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing is pretty useful at one other thing besides plain ol’ killin’, and that’s taking my cubes.
Discard decks have been floating around since the start of the game, with Mobius, Ghost Rider, and Dracula all leading the line as top-tier picks for a deck that dissolves its own hand. Now with MODOK, perfect for powering up Mobius or creating an almost unlimited amount of 0-cost Swarms, things are getting a little silly. That’s without mentioning Apocalypse, with his power increasing effect after each discarding, going together with MODOK like peanut butter and jelly.
Following the recent Silver Surfer and Zabu nerfs, the Marvel Snap meta is looking for a new card to hate seeing but love playing, and MODOK is a top contender for that spot. It doesn’t seamlessly fit into a deck quite like those two, or even Leader, but there’s hardly any way to stop the MODOK assault when it begins, leading to a turn six where you need to be bold or back out. I’ve learned this the hard way.
MODOK is just one of the cards new to Marvel Snap this month, arriving as part of the Into the Quantum Realm season. Before getting to March, we’re set to see Ghost Spider, Stature, and Kang the Conqueror arriving in Second Dinner’s superhero card game. We expect things to change again when Kang shows up, with the villainous star of Quantumania packing a mean effect that lets you take turn five twice.
