So, are the divine beasts in Tears of the Kingdom?
What happened to the divine beasts in Tears of the Kingdom?
This just in: reports say that the divine beasts aren’t seen anywhere, and Hyrule’s citizens wonder where they’ve gone. Or, that’s what we imagine Penn would write in the Lucky Clover Gazette. But really, where are they? Are the divine beasts in Tears of the Kingdom?
The short answer is… we don’t really know where they are, but they’re not in Tears of the Kingdom. No one’s given us many clues as to their whereabouts – even Robbie and Purah the lead creators of Sheiah technology. We found a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it carving of a camel in the Lightning Temple, but there’s nothing to say this is actually an homage to Vah Naboris. We’d like to think it is, though.
What we assume is that after Breath of the Wild, Robbie and Purah reconstituted the Shiekah tech to turn it into the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom towers, as shown by the Guardian arms that grab Link. This may include the divine beasts. We hope they’re in a safe resting place, but it’s more likely that Purah and the Shiekah used them for parts to rebuild Hyrule after the Calamity.
It is possible that their use to defeat Ganon left them useless, or much like weaponry in Tears of the Kingdom, the gloom has destroyed them or rendered the beasts useless. The only semblance of them in the sequel is the Totk divine beast masks, including the Vah Medoh divine helm, which you can locate using our Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom armor guide.
What are divine beasts?
For anyone who may be a little confused as to what we’re talking about, the divine beasts are a main part of Breath of the Wild’s story. The four beasts exist as giant, animal-shaped weapons to take down Ganon when the Calamity struck 100 years before Breath of the Wild is set. It’s Link’s job to reclaim them after they fell and use them to vanquish Ganon once and for all (well, sort of).
There are four of them – Vah Rudania, Vah Ruta, Vah Medoh, and Vah Naboris – piloted by a champion of the main regions of Hyrule. Daruk of the Gorons has Rudania, Mipha the Zora pilots Ruta, Revali the Rito champ looks after Medoh, and Urbosa the electrifying Gerudo stands with Naboris. They’re all shaped like different animals including a lizard, an elephant, a bird, and a camel.
