Apple is bringing Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro to iPad for $4.99 (£4.99) per month or $49 (£49) annually. Final Cut Pro is a video editing suite popular among many pro video editors, while Logic Pro is the same for the music makers of the world.
The apps’ launch on iPad marks the first time the pro tools are available on the go. Usually, the Mac versions of the apps require a hefty lump sum upfront to own them forever – $199 (£199) for Logic and $299 (£299) for Final Cut – so a subscription model could likely lure in semi-pros without the upfront cash.
It’s unclear whether this subscription model will make the jump to the Mac apps too, though it doesn’t look like the iPad versions are dramatically pared down. In fact, the iPad version of Logic Pro looks like the most advanced music editing software you can get on a tablet, at least to my amateur eye.
