If you’ve used any form of social media, posted on a games forum, or tuned into your favourite YouTubers over the past couple of years, chances are you’ve heard of RAID: Shadow Legends. At this stage you’re probably thinking that you don’t need us to tell you what the game entails, you already wake up in a cold sweat chanting the game’s name, after all. The truth is, if you’ve become so desensitised to the game’s existence that you somehow haven’t downloaded it, you’re missing out on one of the best MMORPG games available on mobile, and we’re here to set you straight.
Although you might be tempted to ignore it due to its sheer prevalence in ads and popular culture, RAID deserves better. The reason why all your faves have decided to promote this one game? Because, I’m afraid, it’s just that good.
So grab your mobile device and set it downloading while we run you through the top five reasons to play RAID: Shadow Legends before the year is out.
1. It’s got that warm RPG feel
There’s something magical about hanging around a detailed and slightly grungy world, kitted out in dramatic armour and hauling deadly weapons. It’s nostalgic, it’s classic, and RAID really does the genre justice. From the art style to the animations, from the quests to the champions themselves, everything about the game feels like an ode to the RPG games that came before it.
2. Characters are beyond badass
There are more than 300 Champions to collect as you traverse Telaria, building your army and becoming an unstoppable force. These Champions can be summoned using Shards of varying rarity, completing campaign missions, or for consistency in skill while playing the game. From the very start, you’ll have a choice between Athel, a Sacred Order Champion; Galek, an Orc; Kael, a Dark Elf; or Elhain, a High Elf. From here you’ll be introduced to a veritable collect-athon of characters, ranging from Common to Legendary.
3. The Clan mode brings the community together
The RAID: Shadow Legends community is thriving right now, and not least because of the Clan system. You don’t have to get all sociable, but for many this is the backbone of an RPG and RAID has you covered. As you progress alongside your chosen players, you’ll unlock incredible rewards and loot. Keep an eye on the Clan Achievements board, which can include challenges from acquiring a certain item to taking down a major dungeon boss. In Clan Boss mode, you’ll be able to team up and take on some of the biggest and baddest beasts in the game, alongside a community of like-minded adventurers.
4. Gruelling Dungeon Battles and a seemingly endless Campaign
If you’re not one for a social life, RAID still has plenty for you to do. Taking on the colossal and chaotic Dungeon Bosses will push you to create the very best and brightest army, gathering unbelievable loot if you come out on top. In the Campaign mode, you’ll discover the secrets of Telaria, delve into the lore surrounding its conflicts, and participate in a number of intense battles with coveted Shard prizes. This journey will take you all over the map, levelling your army and bringing a brutal defeat to the grisly beasts that inhabit the land.
5. It’s completely free to play
You can play and download RAID: Shadow Legends for free, on both Android and iOS, so there’s really no excuse for being out of the loop. The name is everywhere for a reason, and it’ll be one of the best RPGs you’ve played in recent years, whether you’re a beginner or a genre pro.
