A farmer is only as good as their tools, and a strong Harvestella hammer is important to any budding adventurer turned harvester. While hoes and watering cans are a staple, you can’t plant crops if there are rocks in the way. Luckily, the standard hammer is easily accessible and capable of breaking all small rocks, but how do you break big rocks in Harvestella? Let’s take a look.
Rocks aren’t the only roadblock in the game, so be sure to check out our Harvestella bomb recipe guide to smash through them all – you might even find a couple of Harvestella Conellu Dolls along the way. We’ve also got a handy Harvestella jobs guide to keep you busy between rock-busting.
Harvestella hammer
When you first get to farming, you already have a hoe and a… watering can? Water gun? Either way, you’ve got a tool to till the land, and a means to water your crops. However, rocks of various sizes litter your precious plot of farming land.
Luckily, Cres gives you the hammer recipe straight away on the morning of day two. It only takes ten hard stones to craft, which you can gather around Bird’s Eye Brae and the entrance to Fjord Steppe.
Once you craft the hammer, you can break all the small rocks on your farming plot. However, try as you might, the basic hammer isn’t strong enough to break the large rocks, which take up some very valuable real estate – four whole squares each!
Harvestella how to break big rocks
For those big, beastly boulders, you need to upgrade your hammer. In order to do this, you need to complete chapter 3C to get Shirii the Earth Faerie on your farm. This unlocks the Earth Faerie sections of the Faerie Orders book. After completing a few of the Earth Faerie requests, Shirii gives you the blueprint to upgrade your hammer, which allows you to break the big rocks.
Keep in mind that, while you can complete the different sections of chapter 3 in any order, there is a real difficulty spike between them, so going for 3C first might not be the best idea – especially as its dungeon and boss are considered some of the toughest in the game so far. Plus, you’ll end up with a lot of winter seeds, as opposed to the spring seeds you get in chapter 3A.
So, as much as those big boulders are a big pain, you’re likely better off going through the sections in order and simply saving Grilla to upgrade your farm for more space.
