The Harry Potter franchise is one of the most influential IPs in the world today. Ever since the release of Philosopher’s Stone, many people long for their own letter of acceptance to Hogwarts, and Harry Potter games make this dream a reality. Some put you in the shoes of an existing character such as Harry, Hermoine, or Ron, but others allow you to create a witch or wizard of your own.
However, to discover which Harry Potter games offer the most magical experience, we took it upon ourselves to brew some potions, cast some spells, and pull a bunch of pranks on unsuspecting witches and wizards – Fred would be proud – just so that we can conjure up the best Harry Potter games on Nintendo Switch and mobile.
If you’re after a different kind of magic, you could take a look at our list of the best Disney games on Nintendo Switch and mobile. Failing that, our picks for the best Resident Evil games, zombie games, and games like Last of Us offer some great suggestions if you want something completely different.
Either way, it’s time to grab a butterbeer and dive into our picks for the best Harry Potter games.

Harry Potter: Puzzles and Spells
It’s extremely rare for any developer to conjure up a match-three puzzler that I enjoy, yet here we are. Then again, Zynga is a behemoth in the mobile games market, so of course, it’s able to create a fantastic Harry Potter game in one of my least favourite genres. There are hundreds of levels for you to complete, and the further you get, the more your magic abilities grow. Furthermore, you get to witness some classic moments from the movies, and that’s a treat for any fan of The Boy who Lived.
Lego Harry Potter Collection – Switch
Who doesn’t love a good Lego game? Actually, is there even a bad one? Either way, the Lego Harry Potter collection is brilliant, and the Switch collection features every school year. So you get to work through famous scenes from the films, except they have the hilarious charm that the Lego games are known for.
You must break objects to create useful machinery, cast spells, explore the wondrous world of Hogwarts, collect many characters, other collectables, and more. This is the ultimate experience for any Harry Potter fan. Plus, being able to experience the final battle with Voldemort in block form is a treat. Honestly, He Who Must Not Be Named isn’t anywhere near as intimidating in Lego form.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery – mobile
Congratulations! Your letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is here, but wait, you’re not playing as a famous HP character, you get to create your own. That’s right, this is your story at the famous castle, and you get to choose which house you wish to be a part of (we’re cunning Slytherins at PT). If you chant get enough of Harry Potter, you’ll love this title.
Throughout your time at Hogwarts, you get to take part in classes, which in turn allows you to unlock new spells to cast and potions to brew. Of course, there’s more to being at Hogwarts than just going to class. Much like Harry, Ron, and Hermione, there are some mysteries for you to solve. Who knows, you might even make a friend or two along the way. Heck, play your cards right, and a romance might even blossom.
Hogwarts Legacy – Switch
We know what you’re thinking, ‘it’s pretty bold to put a game here that isn’t even out yet,’ and you’re right, but Hogwarts Legacy looks like the ultimate experience for any Harry Potter fan, thus, it has a place on this list. One of the best things about this game is that it takes place years in the past, long before the birth of Harry Potter, so it’s an original story full of fresh characters – but that’s not to say you won’t recognise one or two faces.
In Hogwarts Legacy, you find yourself in a unique situation as you’re new to the school as a fifth-year student. It’s highly unusual for any pupil to begin their life at the famous castle in the later years, so it’s fair to say that we’re curious to find out more. It also appears as though we can embrace the dark arts, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a villain?
Throughout the game, you get to form friendships with your fellow students, practice spells, and upgrade various skill trees so you can be the witch or wizard you want to be. Honestly, we could gush about this game for hours, but instead, we’re going to suggest you bookmark our Hogwarts Legacy release date guide if you want to know more.
There you have it, the best Harry Potter games on Nintendo Switch and mobile. We hope you have a magical time, but if you’re after something completely different, our list of the best games like Dark Souls is the place to be.
