Across the seven nations of Teyvat, there are many factions and groups of powerful people, one of which is the Genshin Impact Hexenzirkel. This group brings together some of the most powerful magical people in Teyvat and provides a support network where they can work together and discuss the changes in the world around them.
Though they may not be in the Hexenzirkel, check out our builds for our favorite magical characters like Genshin Impact’s Klee, Genshin Impact’s Mona, and Genshin Impact’s Traveler.
So, what do we know about the Genshin Impact Hexenzirkel?
What is the Genshin Impact Hexenzirkel?
The Genshin Impact Hexenzirkel is a mysterious and secret collection of witches, that got a lot more lore during the 2023 Windblume event’s conclusion.
The witches in the group meet up for tea parties on a remote island in the clouds, around a big table, and they also conduct Irminsul expeditions. The word Hexenzirkel translates to ‘circle of witches’ in German, telling us that the group was likely formed in Mondstadt, or by someone from the area.
Not much else is known about the group itself other than who some of the members are. Genshin Impact’s Alice is an elder member of the Hexenzirkel, and one of the non-human members, alongside Nicole – though we don’t know exactly what either looks like yet. The leader of the group is unknown.
While some of the members may appear to have different ideologies and alignments, the group remains friends regardless of wars and issues that crop up in Teyvat. More on that in a little bit…
Who are the Genshin Impact Hexenzirkel members?
It’s actually a little unclear how many members the Hexenzirkel previously or currently has – in the Windblume event there’s a cutscene showing off a logo of sorts belonging to the coven (pictured above), which has eight small portraits around the edge. This would suggest there are (or were) eight members, but there are only seven seats around the table. Here are the witches that we do know of:
Code name | Name | Affiliation | Status |
A | Alice | Adventurer | Alive |
R | Rhinedottir | Alchemist | Unknown |
B | Barbeloth | Astrologer/Hydromancer | Alive |
N | Nicole | Unknown | Alive |
M | Andersdotter | Writer | Dead |
J | I. Ivanova | Unknown | Dead |
At the moment there’s no confirmation as to most of the elements of the witches, nor any hints beyond what their proteges and followers have – for instance, Alice may be a pyro user because of Klee and Rhinedottir may use geo as she created Albedo. The only one we know for sure is Barbeloth, the hydromancer.
Out of these characters, only Alice and Nicole have appeared in any events. Let’s take a closer look at who these characters may be:
Alice
We have a full page about Genshin Impact’s Alice, but to sum up, she’s one of the original members of the Hexenzirkel and mother to Klee. She’s also the ‘one who would never lie’ in the riddle that characters solve during 2023’s Windblume festival. She’s an adventurer and skilled in many fields.
Rhinedottir
Keen-eyed players will remember the name Rhinedottir, or Gold, as she’s sometimes known – a name she gained when reaching the peak of alchemist knowledge. Rhinedottir is a Khaenri’ahn alchemist with a penchant for creating beings. Do you know those Rifthounds all over Inazuma? They’re hers. Thanks, Gold. This science is known as the Art of Khemia.
It’s believed that Rhinedottir had a hand in the fall of Khaenri’ah, along with other questionable events in Teyvat’s history that include mysterious creatures being created. It’s not all bad, though – one of Gold’s most successful experiments is Albedo. She created him in Khaenri’ah and then sent him to Mondstadt where Alice took him in. Rhinedottir is the ‘flower that is not of this world’ in the Windblume riddle.
Barbeloth
Barbeloth, code name B, is kindly referred to by her student Mona as ‘the old hag’. She’s a hydromancer that’s skilled in astrology, which she passed to Mona. We may learn more about her in Genshin Impact’s Fontaine, given the hydro resonance and the fact that Mona is affiliated with the Fontaine newspaper called The Steambird. According to Mona’s voice lines, Barbeloth hasn’t had very many successful endeavors outside of her hydromancy.
Like Alice, Barbeloth may be a being blessed with longevity or just an elderly lady at this point. During Klee’s story quest, Mona finds B’s diary from 50 years ago so she is no spring chicken at this point.
Nicole
From here on out there’s a lot of speculation, as the confirmed lore gets a bit thin. Nicole is another non-human member of the Hexenzirkel, though there are no hints as to what this may mean just yet. Her powers seem to be similar to those of Genshin Impact’s Nahida, allowing her to speak into people’s minds – often without warning, but usually when people need guidance toward the truth or away from danger.
Nicole is a potential Descender (someone who is not of Teyvat and is therefore not recorded in Irminsul’s history, like the Traveler), or she possesses a vast knowledge of the world outside Teyvat. She studies the direction and order of Teyvat and is the ‘guide that will never get lost’ in the Windblume event.
For those that have finished the Archon Quests of Sumeru, specifically the Inversion of Genesis quest, you will have heard Nicole’s voice. She speaks to the Traveler and Paimon and tells them to believe their own eyes, and ‘only that which you see is true, what is unseen is but an illusion’.
Andersdotter
Andersdotter is a recognized writer in Teyvat famed for penning The Boar Princess series of fairytales. She makes up the ‘legend that never ends’ part of the Windblume quest. Here, we also found out that she’s deceased as her life span was ‘nothing’ compared to some other witches. This leads us to imagine that she was a regular human.
She may have hailed from Khaenri’ah like Rhinedottir, given her name, or perhaps Mondstadt, as that’s where her books are found.
I. Ivanova N.
Now, Ivanova we really don’t know much about. Her codename is J, and we’re not sure why – she may have inherited the title from someone else. Either way, she quit the group to pursue married life, though passed away quite a while ago.
It’s likely that Ivanova came from Snezhnaya and the NPC we meet in the Windblume event, Scarlett appears dressed for very cold weather which supports this. Scarlett is allegedly one of her successors but is not a member of the Hexenzirkel. The prophecy riddle was meant for Ivanova and was actually written by other members of the group.
Other Hexenzirkel members
There may be a hint as to another member of the group in the trailer above. We see a red teapot with two saucers, but only one cup. If it looks familiar, that’s because it’s in the Dawn Winery, and both Diluc’s coat and the carpets at the winery share the same swirly pattern. There’s every chance that Diluc’s mysterious mother was, or is, a member too. Or it’s actually Diluc himself and he too is a fabulous witch (we hope).
Was La Signora in the Hexenzirkel?
This, like Lisa, is an interesting situation. As far as we know, La Signora was not a member of the Hexenzirkel, and she loathes being called a witch – anyone who’s done her weekly domain knows that.
Is Lisa in the Hexenzirkel?
Though Genshin Impact’s Lisa is a well-known and very powerful mage, going by the Witch of Purple Rose, she’s not a member of the Hexenzirkel and finds the whole affair quite off-putting.
If you’re looking to take more of a deep dive into Genshin’s lore, why not start with the Genshin Impact Fatui harbingers like Genshin Impact’s Dottore or Genshin Impact’s Tsaritsa the Cryo Archon?
