Let’s gallop into our Tears of the Kingdom horses guide.
Where can I find horses in Tears of the Kingdom?
TotK horses tend to roam in packs across most of Hyrule. Finding them on foot may be a long process, but thankfully we can shoot out of a Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom tower to get a good vantage point to spy a new steed.
Generally, Zelda: TotK’s horses hang around near stables. They also come in different temperaments – the spottier a horse is, the easier it is to tame, and full-colored horses have wilder temperaments that take longer to tame. You can also ‘steal’ horses from any enemies that are riding them or using them to pull carts.
What are Tears of the Kingdom’s best horses?
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Epona
To get Link’s trusty steed, you need a Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom amiibo. The Super Smash Bros Link and the Twilight Princess Link both allow you to unlock Epona – or if you got her in Breath of the Wild, you get her in Tears of the Kingdom if you’re using the same account for both saves.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Giant white stallion
There’s a second gigantic horse in Tears of the Kingdom, and this time it’s a pearly white. You can find it roaming where Malanya the horse god was in Breath of the Wild – just to the east of the Lake of the Horse God. It takes a lot of stamina to tame this giant beast, but it can be done. This horse has nearly unlimited stamina, so it’s definitely worth the effort to grab it!
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom golden horse
Zelda, it seems, had a few horses at her disposal. This gaudy golden one is in Tears of the Kingdom and roams the plains north of the Snowfield Stable. Now, there is an ice Gleeok in the way, but you can sneak past to grab the horse and then quickly gallop back to safety. Bringing this horse to the Snowfield Stable also nets you the Royal saddle, which is nice.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Ganon’s horse
Like Epona, you can get Ganon’s gigantic steed if you had it in Breath of the Wild. However, reports say that it spawns naturally in Tears of the Kingdom amongst other horses on the beaches east of Hateno Village. We haven’t found it just yet, but good luck horse hunting!
How do I tame the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom horses?
Taming Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom horses require one thing: stamina. You can drop an apple or two for horses to get their attention, then crouch walk towards them, and sneakily press A to mount them – or drop onto their back from flying with the paraglider.
Once on the back of a new steed, mash L to calm it. This drains your stamina, so keep an eye on it and refill it with food if the horse is particularly difficult. After a while, the horse stops jumping around and calms down. Now you can ride it and register it at a stable.
How do I transfer horses from Breath of the Wild to Tears of the Kingdom?
Turning your old Breath of the Wild mares into Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom horses is super simple – which is quite the relief, as we’re pretty attached to the horsey pals we got in BotW. As long as you have a Breath of the Wild save file on the same Nintendo Switch user account that you’re playing TotK on, all you need to do is head to a stable for the first time and speak to whoever is working the desk. They explain the ins and outs of the stable to you and then note that you have previously caught horses available. Choose to bring them over, and there you have it – your full roster of horses, ready to use.
What is the Tears of the Kingdom Horse God location?
That pesky Horse God Malanya is back in Tears of the Kingdom, but like their Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Great Fairy sisters, has moved from its previous spot. In Breath of the Wild, the Horse God conveniently set up shop right by the Lake of the Horse God. In Tears of the Kingdom, however, the Horse God now resides in north Akkala below the Ancient Akkala Tech Lab, above Bloodleaf Lake.
