A new podcast series was recently launched by the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and was designed to make the built environment more accessible to the public by exploring aspects of design and construction and discussing current issues such as climate change and housing.

The podcast, called Architecturally Speaking, is hosted by architect Ryan Schwartz and features interviews and discussions that offer a unique perspective on the world of architecture. Schwartz’s recent work has focused on residential projects at a variety of scales, and he is also active in the fields of architectural media and photography.

The first episode features BDP Quadrangle architect Karl Van Es, who shares insights on sustainable design and its role in climate action.

Future episodes will launch every month and delve into a wide range of topics such as innovative housing alternatives, accessibility in architecture, and designing for dignity in long-term care facilities.

Architecturally Speaking is produced by the OAA in association with For the Record Productions’ Peter Reynolds.

“Whether you’re an aspiring architect or just fascinated by the built environment, this show is for you. If you’re an OAA member, be sure to share the podcast with friends, family, or clients who might be interested in learning more about architecture and those who practise it,” reads the OAA’s website.

“In each episode, we pull back the curtain on this expansive and ancient vocation. Together, we discover the latest trends that are revolutionizing the profession, and dive into the minds of industry leaders to understand how they shape the world around us. We’ll also tackle complex issues to reveal how architecture impacts our lives each and every day. From urban skyscrapers to tiny dwellings, join us and learn more about the spaces where we live, work, and play.”

The podcast is available on major platforms, including Buzzsprout, YouTube, Spotify, Amazon, Apple, or wherever you get your podcasts from.
