Call for submissions: 2022 RAIC Annual Awards
Entries are open for the RAIC's Gold Medal, Architectural Practice Award, and Emerging Architectural Practice Award.
The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) invites submissions for its portfolio of annual awards for 2022. This year, the prospective awards include the Emerging Architectural Practice Award and the Architectural Practice Award. Additionally, the RAIC Gold Medal—which is the highest honour the institute can bestow, is accepting submissions.

The deadline for submissions to the 2022 awards is before 11:59 p.m. EST, January 14, 2022. Applicants are able to submit their works for consideration towards any award through the RAIC Awards platform.
Entrants are solely responsible for timely submissions. The listed date and time are firm for applications without exceptions. A brief description of each award is as follows:
The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s Gold Medal is the highest honour that the Institute can bestow in recognition of a significant and lasting contribution to Canadian architecture. The honour recognizes a significant body of work deemed to have lasting influence as demonstrated through excellence in design; excellence in research; and/or excellence in education. It considers the individual’s breadth and scope of expertise; established presence within the public sphere; exemplary approaches to environmental sustainability; support and advancement of social justice; and commitment to the future generation of architects.
Any individual is eligible to be nominated to receive the Gold Medal. The Gold Medal may be awarded to more than one individual –for instance, the partners of an architectural firm– where it is clearly demonstrated that the nominees have individually and collectively met the selection criteria.
Past honorees include Brigitte Shim and Howard Sutcliffe, Blanche Lemco van Ginkel, Gilles Saucier and André Perrotte, Roger du Toit, Brian MacKay-Lyons, Frank Gehry, Arthur Erickson, Dan Hanganu, Bing Thom, Phyllis Lambert, George Baird, and others.
Architectural Practice Award (formerly the Architectural Firm Award)
This award honours a Canadian architectural practice that has consistently produced distinguished architecture. The award recognizes the achievements of the practice, considering seven core areas: quality of architecture, quality of professional services, innovations in practice, contributions to the profession, exemplary approaches to environmental sustainability, support and advancement of social justice, and a commitment to the future generation of architects.
To be eligible for this award, an architectural practice must be established for ten (10) or more years and must have its principal office in Canada. The award may be given to an individual, or a group of individuals, making up a practice

Emerging Architectural Practice Award (the Emerging Architect Award has been merged with this award)
This award is to recognize an emerging Canadian architectural practice that shows exceptional promise for contributing significantly to the future of Canadian architecture. The award recognizes the early career achievements of the practice, considering six core areas: quality of architecture, quality of professional services, innovations in practice, contributions to the profession, exemplary approaches to sustainability, and the support and advancement of social justice.
To be eligible for this award, an architectural practice must have been together for fewer than ten (10) years (including the period of time in which any predecessor firm(s) were active) and must have its principal office located in Canada The award may be given to an individual or a group of individuals making up a practice.
Past winners include: Leckie Studio Architecture + Design (2021), PARTISANS (2020), Nine Yards Studio (2020), UUfie (2019), Chevalier Morales Architectes (2018) and others for the Emerging Architectural Practice, and Anya Moryoussef (2021), Drew Adams (2020), Kenneth Borton (2019), Jessie Andjelic (2019), Luc Bouliane (2018) and others have received the Emerging Architect Award.
