Older equals fitter
According to the National Post a new study of 17,000 adults published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine (July 24, 2002) claims people who live in houses at least 27 years old are much more likely than residents in newer homes to walk a mile or more at least 20 times a month. The sidewalks in older neighbourhoods, which often mix business and residential use, are conducive to walking. In newer suburban locations, with low-density development, people tend to drive cars whenever they leave the house. Among respondents, 64% who lived in houses built before 1974 were the most active.
