George Zhao, Honor’s CEO, took to the stage at MWC today to officially launch the Magic5 series and Magic VS mobile devices. No, one launch isn’t enough for the developers at Honor, with both devices taking centre stage at the big reveal event.
First to get the star treatment is the Magic5 series, Honor’s equivalent to the iPhone with the Magic5 and Magic5 Pro models. Showcasing the new triple camera capable of breath-taking shots, the ergonomic design of the device inspired by Gaudi’s curve, and phenomenal on-screen colour accuracy, Honor’s new flagship pro model certainly seems capable of competing with the industry’s big dogs. We also got a peek at the available models from the Magic5 series, including coral purple, meadow green, glacier blue, hot orange, and for that classic look, plain old black designs.
The new Magic5 pro series models are seemingly ideal for the amateur photographer, or perhaps even the pro, with Zhao highlighting the quality of images taken on the device compared to Samsung and iPhone equivalent models. Sharing his delight, the CEO highlighted examples comparing night shots, motion captures, and outdoor images across multiple devices, with the Honor Magic5 consistently delivering the most high-quality images.
Performance is a big deal for mobile gamers, so it’s good to know that Honor is aware of this. Zhao shared some details about how Honor Magic5 Pro runs games, including a very specific bit on how well the Honor device can run Genshin Impact, promising higher FPS and a longer play time from full charge to shutdown than any of the competitors. The regular model isn’t a bad option either, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset keeping everything running.
After talking about the Honor Magic5 series for the best part of an hour, the Magic VS is next in line. As a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, the Magic VS is a foldable device that doesn’t lack on quality, simplifying the design into the smallest amount of components possible. With a smaller body and a bigger battery than the competitors, the Magic VS is a powerful device packed into a pocket-size offering, with a larger display than you might anticipate on first seeing the phone.
One of the big focuses of the double Honor launch is interconnectivity between devices, with a short clip showing how the “human-centric technology” of the tech giant’s devices can make life easier for all of us. Not only that, but Honor is seemingly aware of accessibility issues in the industry, with Zhao highlighting how the design of both phones supports those with vision problems thanks to plenty of options surrounding dimming and backlight control.
In terms of pricing, you can see the launch prices for each device below. The U.S. prices are still not official, so we’ve estimated based on current exchange rates.
