Here’s something that definitely isn’t on your 2023 bingo card – a Mcdonald’s Game Boy game called Grimace’s Birthday that runs on the old system. We’re not sure if it’s one of the best Game Boy games out there, but we’ll give it points for creativity. Now I just want chicken nuggets.
Everyone probably recognizes Grimace – he’s the big, purple mascot that hangs around with the Hamburglar and the rest of the McDonald’s gang that were on the walls of every joint in the 2000s. It’s his birthday, so the company is celebrating in style with a hefty purple milkshake available in stores and a Game Boy Color game online.
You can also play the game on PC or mobile via this suitably retro website, as creators Krool Toys included us modern players in this unexpected collaboration. In the game, you play as Grimace as he skateboards around the place collecting the previously mentioned purple milkshakes.

Now, there isn’t a physical cartridge release for this game (yet), but the software does work on Game Boys and modern replication hardware.
This, amazingly, isn’t even the only Game Boy game that’s planned for release – cute, space-themed, platformer Goodboy Galaxy plans on a GBA release along with current platforms as well.
If you’re not getting stuck into Grimace’s Birthday, then we suggest trying the best mobile games out there or these Switch games for kids.
