We’ve finally got our hands on Nintendo’s financial report for the fiscal year ending March 2023, and while not quite reaching the hardware sales giddy heights of the pandemic, the Japanese development giant is still enjoying plenty of success. The main takeaway is that last year’s developments push the lifetime Switch software sales to over a billion, surpassing both the Nintendo DS and Wii.
Still, it’s not all amazing news in Nintendo’s financial report for 2023. Net sales, operating profit, and gross profit are all slightly down on 2022, while research and advertising charges are up. The financial year ending March 2023 also notes the lowest selling year for the base Nintendo Switch console, though sales of the OLED model have nearly doubled in the last twelve months.
The big driving factor for the billion in software sales is popular titles from 2022, especially Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, with 20.7 million copies sold since the November release date. Splatoon 3 and Nintendo Switch Sports also helped bring in sales, each tallying ten and nine million sold, respectively. If you want to see the full report, click this link for all the information.
Looking ahead, we’re sure that the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom release date is sure to boost sales of both hardware and software in the coming months. There’s also Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC at the end of the year, so we’re anticipating seeing both titles lead the pack in next year’s financial reports.
