Tamagotchi is a legendary brand spawned by the brains at Bandai Namco, with the goal of bringing a virtual pet to your pocket. The Tamagotchi On sought to revive that old magic, with a colour screen, a now-defunct app, and other features. While it wasn’t quite the smash hit of the original, it did aim to bring Tamagotchi into the modern day and succeeded to a certain extent. Even without the mega sales of old, it’s still a pretty cool device.
To check out all the other available virtual pets from Bandai Namco, we’ve got guides for Tamagotchi original, Tamagotchi Smart, Tamagotchi Hello Kitty, and Tamagotchi Pix devices. Or if you’re looking for something a little bit less fantastical, we’ve also got guides to the best dog games and cat games on Switch and mobile.
Tamagotchi On colours and designs
The colour-screened Tamagotchi On doesn’t overflow with colour variations – rather there are only four to choose from. With Magic Green, Magic Purple, Fairy Pink, and Fairy Blue, choosing isn’t going to be the longest job in the world. The plastic eggshell shape is extra glittery this time around, however. Other versions may be available in different regions, but these are the main four available worldwide.

Tamagotchi On app
The Tamagotchi On app lets you take your current pet out to the park, take them down to the Tama Party to find a partner, and meet up with your friends. This helps bring Tamagotchi into the modern day, letting your favourite friends make new ones. Sadly, the Tamagotchi On app was discontinued on August 31, 2022.
