The iPhone 15 release date is right around the corner, or at least we assume it is. While we don’t have a set launch date, Apple always launches new handsets in September, normally a week after a launch event where all the new features are shown off.
So, head below to see previous dates and how they may affect Apple’s iPhone 15 launch. Plus, we explore the possible iPhone 15 price and iPhone 15 colors too, so you can plan ahead for the big day. iPhone 15 release date speculation
We expect the iPhone 15 release date to fall during the month of September. Apple is yet to announce an exact date, but by looking at previous launches, it seems pretty obvious that it should release around then. Check out the last few years of launches below if you don’t believe us:
- iPhone 14 – September 16, 2022
- iPhone 13 – September 24, 2021
- iPhone 12 – October 23, 2020
- iPhone 11 – September 20, 2019
- iPhone XS – September 21, 2018
The only outlier here is the iPhone 12, which Apple delayed following disruption due to the coronavirus pandemic. A recent report Wamsi Mohan, a global securities analyst at Bank of America (via MacRumors), suggests there could be a similar delay to the iPhone 15 release date, though this prediction doesn’t come with a clear reason, so take with a hefty pinch of salt.
What is the iPhone 15 price?
There have been a handful of iPhone 15 price bump rumors, suggesting that Apple’s new flagship handset, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, will cost more than its predecessor. In spite of this, it looks like production is also higher than last year, making for an interesting combination as we near the iPhone 15 release date.
As reported by 9to5Mac, Jeff Pu of Haitong International Tech Research says he expects the new iPhone range to enter mass production in August, with 84 million units planned for the second half of the year. That’s a 12% increase versus the iPhone 14 last year, so Apple might have a very appealing device in the works indeed.
The iPhone 15 price increase is likely to only apply to the top-end model, since it’s expected to have unique specs versus its little brother. This isn’t completely out of the ordinary – the iPhone 12 Pro Max had better wide and telephoto cameras than that smaller Pro – though it’s not common either. It’s rumored that the camera is where the two models will differ again, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max having superior optical zoom capabilities – perhaps double what is currently possible.
Will there be an iPhone 15 Ultra?
There are lots of rumors that Apple will announce a new name for its top-end iPhone, replacing the Pro Max line with the Ultra naming convention. The alternative is that the Ultra is an all-new phone above both of its Pro models. Both these rumors come from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg.
The former plan would mean that the iPhone 15 Ultra replaces the Pro Max – the larger version of the Pro. This would happen if there are specific features within the larger model that are unique to it, such as large camera sensors – something that’s happened before.
The latter plan would mean iPhone takes another leap to offer three handsets – a mid-range one, a pro one, and a premium one. This falls in line with others like Samsung, but it’s hard to say which route Apple will take.
One thing is for certain, however. The “Ultra” designation is nothing new to Apple. There’s the Apple Watch Ultra, a smartwatch that is packed to the brim full of features and costs the best part of a grand. There’s also the M2 Ultra, Apple’s latest top-end chip that’ll set you back at least four grand. So, if we do get an iPhone 15 Ultra, expect to pay a pretty penny.
What are the iPhone 15 colors?
The only iPhone 15 colors we’re confident Apple has in the works are the usuals. There should be a black one, a white one, a gold one, and a special edition color. The iPhone 14 Pro came in white, black, gold, and purple, for example.
The only solid rumor for the iPhone 15 Pro’s unique color comes from 9to5mac, which says the new flagship is coming in a dark red color. It looks pretty gorgeous in the mock-ups on the site, but we can’t corroborate this rumor ourselves.
