PowerWash Simulator continues to defend its title as one of the most oddly satisfying yet relaxing games on Switch as FuturLab and the University of Oxford reveal an open data resource for studying the effect of gaming on well-being. The resource is based on PowerWash Simulator research data submitted by players through the research build of the game.
FuturLab, University of Oxford, and Tilburg University’s resource is the largest data set on videogames, well-being, and player motivations in the world and forms the basis of an innovative study. The researchers collected data from over 11k players in 39 countries between August 2022 and March 2023.
PowerWash Simulator’s research version used in-game messaging to prompt players to record their mood while completing various levels. The data set is open to anyone who is interested and the research team aims to publish their in-depth analysis of how playing PowerWash Simulator affects well-being in the coming months.
Co-author of the study and Senior Programmer at FuturLab James Butlin said, “From a game developer’s perspective, the opportunity to scientifically measure the level of satisfaction, competency, and general well-being your players feel while playing your game is invaluable – and incredibly exciting!”
