The Resident Evil franchise underwent something of a reinvention with it’s seventh entry, after the lacklustre success of Resident Evil 6 and its strong focus on action and quips. Resident Evil Biohazard takes the series back to its roots with a renewed focus on horror, an unsettling shift to a first-person perspective, and the introduction of the brand new character Ethan Winters.
If you want to know more about Resident Evil’s Ethan, our guide is here to give you all the details on the mysterious protagonist, and his adventures through the grim and often deadly world of the Resident Evil universe. Ethan has been through hell and back despite only appearing in a couple of games, losing more hands than the monarchs of Westeros. Watch out for tall vampire ladies especially, or don’t, we won’t judge you.
Let’s explore our Resident Evil Ethan guide.
Who is Resident Evil’s Ethan?
The Resident Evil series introduced Ethan Winters as the protagonist of Resident Evil 7, though his background is still very mysterious. He’s an American, is trained as a systems engineer, and is married to a woman called Mia. Before the events of Resident Evil 7, Mia goes missing under suspicious circumstances, and clues to her whereabouts lead Winters to the Baker’s house, setting off the events of Resident Evil 7.
Later in the timeline, Ethan and Mia settle together in a remote European village, and have a daughter called Rose. While living a quiet and idyllic life, one day they’re awoken by the intrusion of several armed soldiers and Resident Evil mainstay Chris Redfield, who kidnaps their daughter Rose. After this Ethan sets out once again to uncover the truth behind these events, searching this grim and dangerous village to find his daughter and the truth behind her kidnapping.
Resident Evil Ethan’s personality
Despite the horrific events of Resident Evil 7 and Village, Ethan remains quiet and stoic, and what little exposition there is only gives players a glimpse into his life. He cares deeply about his wife Mia and daughter Rose, doing anything and everything to get them back. You have to give him a hand for his effort. Unlike many other Resident Evil protagonists, Ethan doesn’t speak mostly in quips or action movie one-liners, instead reacting to the gruesome events in more grounded ways, helping to make the most recent entries feel more grounded in reality, and a touch more horrible.
What games does Resident Evil’s Ethan appear in?
