We’re pretty used to Pokémon titles hitting ridiculous numbers, but with the news that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet sales have already surpassed ten million less than a week after launch, even we’re a bit flabbergasted. In the first three days alone, the ninth generation of Pokémon sold more than any other Switch title to date. That’s some serious moolah for Nintendo.
In fact, not only is Pokémon Scarlet & Violet the best-selling title on Switch across its first three days, but across all Nintendo hardware. Of course, with the Switch selling units like the Wii U could only ever dream of, it’s not a massive surprise that the big Switch sellers are the biggest Nintendo has ever had. Still, it does mean that, unlike the original Wii, people pick up this console and don’t just let it gather dust with a copy of Wii Sports in the disk tray.
Of course, despite the massive Pokémon Scarlet and Violet sales numbers, this launch hasn’t exactly been plain sailing for Game Freak thanks to some seriously questionable bugs and gameplay issues. This means that at the same time as sales are soaring, Nintendo is actually handing out refunds to those who are requesting them, including one Redditor who shared their experience getting their money back.
Still, despite the refunds, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet sales will continue to skyrocket if they’re anything like the Switch Pokemon titles, Sword and Shield, which went on to become the second best-selling titles from the franchise throughout its history. If Pokémon Scarlet & Violet still want to beat out Red and Blue there’s a long way to go, but these numbers less than a week in stand the ninth generation in good stead.
