Luigi’s Mansion is a sparse series. The first entry came in 2001 on the GameCube, the second more than a decade later on 3DS, and the most recent almost four years ago. But, in spite of its scarcity, could we get Luigi’s Mansion 4 on Switch? And if so, where would it be set?
That’s the discussion over on Reddit at the moment, with folks sharing hopes, dreams, and tentative predictions about where the next entry could be set. Given the Nintendo Switch production increase rumoured recently, it’s not out of the question the console sticks around for a long while, giving Next Level Games a chance to get another instalment out.
The excellently named PressYtoHonk kicked off the conversation: “I remember back in the day after Luigi’s Mansion 2, there was all this buzz on this sub about what the setting could be for a, at the time, hypothetical Luigi’s Mansion 3. Shockingly enough, I remember a lot of people being exactly right with the idea of a haunted hotel!
“Does anyone else have any ideas on what the new haunted location could be? I saw one idea for a haunted cruise ship in a video by Nin10doland, which would be amazing. […] Haunted Peach’s Castle? Maybe a haunted resort on Isle Delfino?!” Some great ideas for sure, and a huge amount of excitement which is the main thing.
The most popular suggestion comes from crome66, who keeps it short and simple: “Haunted amusement park!” YellsHello fleshes the idea out in a way that gets us excited “This is the move for sure. A semi-open world outside the walled confines of 1-3’s settings would really make it stand out. Next Level Games would crush it.”
Other ideas range from “Luigi on Deck”, a museum, castle, ghost town, and even a space station. One idea from within the PT team is a Luigi’s Mansion set in the Nintendo Switch factory, giving some meta fourth-wall-breaking edge to the series. All good ideas, but who know where they go with it?
