So, I’ve been purposely avoiding Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom treasure chests like a man with a penchant for dodgeball games. “How dare you”, you cry, “what sort of person?” you ask. The sort that can’t spend another twenty minutes messing about with three fans, two planks of wood, and a single wheel, just for a measly five arrows or Zonai pot. I’m not doing it. Can you hear me, Eiji Aonuma? I’m not doing it!
Fortunately, I’m not the only one slightly underwhelmed with some of the treasure chests in Link’s latest adventure, especially those hidden inside the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom shrines. A post on the TotK Reddit, ‘Spending an extra 10-30 minutes in a shrine to get the treasure chest’ displaying Link unimpressed with an opal, has picked up more than seven thousand up-votes in 24 hours. So, maybe you’re the weirdo for actually bothering with the treasure, huh?
The dismay of fellow Hyrulians is clear in the Reddit post comments, with some even taking it further in also questioning the contents of the region’s many caves. The comment “Give up five bomb flowers to get one bomb flower in caves too” from user vogelpoel has the most upvotes under the main post, suggesting that quite a few of us are sick of running out of bomb flowers. You’re not wrong, vogelpoel. You’re not wrong at all.
Of course, I don’t blame you if you are chasing every treasure chest in every shrine, I’d just rather spend my time making mechs and psychologically tormenting koroks like a very normal person. The whole fun of Tears of the Kingdom is playing it how you want, it is a sandbox game, after all, so we’re not going to tell you what to do. Ask yourself – is it really worth it? Or is this time you could spend hanging out with Purah? I know where I’m at.
