If you’re sick of hiking around Hyrule, our Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom vehicles guide is here to help you get from ‘a’ to ‘b’ in no time at all. With Link’s fresh ultrahand ability, you can now create all manner of driving, floating, and flying contraptions, turning our hero into a regular mechanical engineer. So, we’ve put together this guide to teach you everything you need to know in order to create planes, trains, and automobiles that make moving around this massive map a little easier.

What are Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom vehicles?
Link can create Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom vehicles using Zonai technology to make it easier to get around the region on the ground or in the air. Things start pretty simple, with the opening sky island teaching you how to make a basic boat and plane, but with the sandbox nature of this game, it doesn’t take long for the creative possibilities to open up. Essentially, Zelda: TotK vehicles are whatever you decide they are, with a world of possibilities for exciting new ways to travel.
How do I create Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom vehicles?
If you want to be an imaginative player, you can create Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom vehicles with any spare equipment lying around – from the wooden items left at every construction pile to the Zonai items you find or pick up from various Zonai gacha gumball machines you can find across Hyrule. Once you have your items, use the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ultrahand ability to begin attaching parts and see your blueprint come to life.
For those who don’t have time for arts and crafts, you can make creating vehicles easier by picking up the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom autobuild ability. With this power, you can save favourites to immediately recreate them, or check out some of the Zonai pre-builds that you might not have thought up yourself. Either way, using autobuild is a real time saver and we recommend you pick up the ability even if you don’t plan on using it much.
Still, we do have some recommendations for how to go about building vehicles, so if you’re struggling to get the wheels turning, check out the bullet points below.
- Watch out for fire – if your vehicle requires fire to function, such as a hot air balloon, be sure not to use flammable equipment when creating it
- Check your thrust – vehicles with wheels can only move with something propelling them if not on a downward incline, be it a rocket or fan, so keep a few of these devices handy for emergencies
- Watch your wheels – be sure that nothing is going to interrupt the turning of your wheels or knock you off balance as you ride
- Keep an eye on your energy – especially early in the game, you can only use a certain amount of Zonai energy, so don’t overextend yourself by riding a vehicle into battle that won’t last the fight
- Use the Zonai gacha gumball machines – be sure to regularly replenish the Zonai items in your inventory by using the gumball machines across Hyrule
What are the best Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom vehicles?
Deciding on the best Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom vehicles is an impossible task as each suits a different situation, but we have to say we do like sticking rockets to a glider and taking off into the sky. Not only is this fun, but if you take off from sky island using a rocket-powered glider, you can get much further than you might relying on your paraglider and low stamina.
Still, we’ve seen some pretty impressive fan creations online, from full-on laser-shooting flying machines to Neon Genesis Evangelion-style mechs. The whole idea of the ultrahand ability is to get creative, so test your engineering skills and see what you can come up with in this sandbox world. Check out some of our favourites below.
The Podracer
Anakin Skywalker, eat your heart out. Why not give Hyrule a Star Wars twist by creating your own podracer? Better still, you can ride it around the outskirts of Gerudo to test your need for speed. Of all of the possibilities with Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom vehicles, this is one of our favorites.
Fighter jet
Sure, you think taking on a Lynel is hard, but you can make it easier by summoning your own fighter jet. As you can see in the clip below, Link simply glides through the skies as he unleashes fury on the ground below. Just make sure you have the Zonai charge necessary to keep flying for a while.
Combat mech
Turn Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom into Armored Core in Hyrule by making your own badass mech. Sure, you’re going to need lots of parts to put something like this together, but as you can tell from the rampant destruction in the video below, it’s well worth it.
